Fort Bidwell Indian Community Fiber-to-the-Home Project

Jun 23, 2025 |

Connecting Homes. Empowering Communities.

The SB-156 FFA Fort Bidwell Indian Community (FBIC) fiber-to-the-home project is expanding broadband access across Fort Bidwell, Lake City, and Cedarville. This Last Mile project will connect to California’s Middle-Mile Broadband Initiative at Cedarville, improving internet access for underserved rural areas.

Led by the California Department of Technology and managed by GoldenStateNet, the state’s open-access network aims to close the digital divide statewide.

In Partnership for Progress

The Fort Bidwell Indian Community has partnered with Hunter Communications to work closely with FBIC to design, build, and operate the new fiber network. As a trusted fiber provider and Eligible Telecommunications Carrier (ETC), Hunter brings high-speed service and long-term support to the region. The Last Mile project is meant to offer reliable high speed service, but also affordable prices to the local residents.

Together, we’re committed to:

  • Expanding affordable internet access

  • Creating jobs and workforce opportunities

  • Offering discounted service for tribal offices

  • Supporting community growth and self-determination

Why Broadband Matters

Fast, reliable internet empowers rural Indigenous communities with:

  • Education access through online learning

  • Telehealth services for remote care

  • Economic growth via remote work and entrepreneurship

  • Cultural preservation and communication tools

Broadband is more than a utility—it’s a pathway to equity and opportunity.
